Perkins-Tryon jumped out to an early lead over the Blackwell Maroons last Friday. That proved to be critical as both teams survived a wild sixth inning in the Demons' 10-9 win.

P-T begins Class 3A district tournament action later today at home hosting the Meeker Bulldogs. The fi rst of two games will start at 4:30 p.m. If there is a doubleheader split today, the "if necessary" game will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The Demons plated single runs in the first two innings for the 2-0 advantage. Shelby Reese scored on a Tanner Bane two-out single in the fi rst. In the second frame, Zeke Dougan, courtesy running for catcher Alex Dougan, scored on an error when Matt Waitt hit a ground ball up the middle.

After a scoreless third inning, Blackwell plated three runs in the top of the fourth off of three hits and two P-T errors for a shortlived 3-2 advantage.

Then came the explosive sixth frame with both teams plating six runs each. The Maroons used five hits a P-T error and a hit by pitch to plate their runs. Tanner Bane started the inning on the mound for the Demons and plunked the leadoff hitter.

He was relieved by Zeke Dougan who gave up four hits and for five runs before he was relieved by Matt Waitt with only one out. Waitt finally retired the Maroons after giving up a sacrifice fly, a hit, and a walk but the visitors now led 9-4.

The Demons responded quite nicely with a leadoff single by Alex Dougan followed by Austin Nietenhoefer getting hit by a pitch and Brady Dougan walking to load the bases. After a pop up out by Waitt, Tanner Bridenstine was hit by a pitch to score Alex Dougan. Nietenhoefer scored when Shelby Reese reached on an error and Brady Dougan was plated by a Bane sacrifice fly for a 9-7 score.

Bridenstine scored when Brady Davis reached on Blackwell's second error of the inning. Reese scored on Dillon Longbrake's single up the middle for a 9-9 tie. Davis scored what proved to be the winning run when Alex Dougan singled for the second time in the inning.

In the top of the seventh, Waitt retired the Maroons in order to secure the win in relief.

Alex Dougan led P-T at the plate with a 3-for-4 outing with two runs scored and a run batted in.

At Mannford, the host Pirates used a seven-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning to avenge an earlier loss to the Demons. MHS charted an 8-3 win last Tuesday.

P-T scored all three of its runs in the top of the third inning. Longbrake had the big hit with a single that scored Reese and Alex Dougan. Davis scored the first run when Bane worked a bases loaded walk.

Mannford countered with a single run in the bottom of the frame before the big fourth inning.

Reese was the losing pitcher in 3.1 innings of work. Longbrake and Zeke Dougan followed in relief work.

Offensively, the Demons scattered four hits.

The week began with a 6-4 win over the Perry Maroons last Monday. The game also served as the championship finals of the Hector Tovar Memorial Tournament that was delayed during spring break because of the weather.

PHS led 3-0 after three innings before the Demons responded with a six-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning.

Bane scored the first run when Nietenhoefer reached on an error. Ryan Richards singled up the middle to plate Longbrake and Nietenhoefer for a 3-3 tie. Richards broke the knot when he scored when Waitt reached on a bases load walk. Davis and Waitt scored the final two runs to give P-T a 6-3 advantage.

Perry added another run in to bottom of the sixth.

Nietenhoefer went 2-of-4 with a run scored to lead the Demons offensively.

Bane went the distance on the mound for the win. He gave up four runs on 10 hits and a walk. He did strike out eight.
