Perkins-Tryon senior Brandon Moody, shown wrestling in this year’s Class 3A state wrestling tournament, has been invited to participate in the Down Under Sports Tournaments hosted in Auckland, New Zealand this summer. He is currently working to raise funds to help offset the cost of the trip.

Perkins-Tryon senior Brandon Moody is seekingseeking assistance to embark on a trip that would allow him to extend his high school wrestling career while being able to take a trip of a lifetime later this summer.

Moody has been invited to participate in the Down Under Sports Tournaments hosted in Auckland, New Zealand. Moody has been awarded Second Team selected on the 2013 Oklahoma State Wrestling Team. He has been invited based on his appearance in the 2013 Class 3A state wrestling tournament held earlier this year.

He will represent the state on the Western Conference Wrestling Team at the 15th Annual Down Under International Games. He was one of three Oklahoma wrestlers invited to compete in the freestyle event as 126 athletes nationwide were invited.

Moody is currently seeking contributions to help offset the cost of the trip. He said it will cost around $6,000 to cover all the major expenses. He added his mom, Brenda, is planning to accompany him. All the funds are due by June 1.

"This will allow me to further my wrestling career and get more exposure to colleges," Moody said. He added he's looking at attending Bacone College in Muskogee to wrestle and go to school.

The itinerary has the group leaving on Monday, July 1, to spend four days in New Zealand competing for team and individual titles. Three days will also be spent in Australia plus the opportunity to extend the trip to spend three days in Hawaii.

Moody was a member of the P-T wrestling team from 2009-2013. As a senior, Moody finished in the top six at the state tournament after he turned in a fourth place finish at the East regional tournament held at Berryhill. He finished fifth at the 2012 regional tournament and sixth at the 2011 regional event.

He is the first P-T wrestler to be invited to this endeavor. Previously, P-T athletes were invited to participate in football.

Moody is also active with the Boy Scouts of America having attained the title of Eagle Scout in 2012. He is also a Venture Scout with Crew 2820 in Stillwater in addition to being assistant scoutmaster with Troop 824 in Perkins and Troop 198 in Kingfisher.

He is a BSA and American Red Cross certified lifeguard as well.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution for his trip, Moody can be reached at the high school or through his mom at (405) 820-9357. Her e-mail address is ibmoody2@yahoo.com.
