P-T, area Baseball regional at Verdigris tracksters qualify for state meets

ENID - Perkins-Tryon qualified four tracksters for this week's state track meet following regional meet action Saturday at Chisholm High School.

The Class 3A state track meet will be Friday and Saturday at Ardmore High School.

Senior McKenzie Stanford led the way for P-T by qualifying for three events. Stanford finished the regional meet with first place finishes in the 100- meter hurdles and the high jump. She was third in the shot put.

In the hurdles, Stanford logged a time of 16.59 seconds which was consistent with her preliminary heat time of 16.58 seconds. Stanford cleared the high jump bar at 5-2 for the championship while throwing the shot put 34-5.

Also for the Lady Demons, sophomore Bailey Wensler qualified for the state meet following her third place finish in the 800-meter run. Wensler finished with a time of 2: 32.06. Wensler also qualified for the 1600-meter run even though she finished fifth at the regional meet. Her time of 5:56.35 was among the top four fastest from those who finished fourth through sixth in all four regional meets.

The top three finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet.

For the Demons, junior John Sasser secured his spots in the state meet with a pair of third place finishes in the sprint races. Sasser ran the 100-meter dash in 11:28 in the finals, which was quicker than his preliminary time of 11.45 seconds. His time in the 200-meter dash finals was 23.31 after he posted the fast preliminary time of 23.58 seconds.

Senior Cody Waitt finished fourth in the 200- meter dash with a 23.68, which was the fastest time among the fourth through sixth place finishers from the other regional meets. He too will be part of the P-T group going to the state meet.

Dakota Phelps finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39-7. Waitt also had a sixth place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:03.01.

Rylee Craycraft was sixth in the 1600-meter run with a 6:02.77 and eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.27.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Reagan O'Donnell, Kayla Wilkinson, Faith Velega, and Nike Shoemaker finished seventh with a time of 2:09.73. That same group ran the 4x100-meter relay and posted a 1:02.49.

In team standings, the Lady Demons finished seventh with 35 points. Lincoln Christian easily won the regional meet with 194 points. Oklahoma City Millwood was a distance second with 113 points. Then came Chisholm, Chelsea, and Pawhuska rounding out the top five positions.

For the Demons, they placed eighth with 27 points. Millwood won the boys' regional title with 140 points followed by Chisholm with 118 points. Third place went to Lincoln Christian with 114 points while Newkirk and Pawhuska finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ripley, Coyle, and Agra also qualified tracksters for their respective state meets.

For Ripley, Shelby Akins qualified in two girls' sprint events following action at the Class 2A meet at Luther. Akins finished in third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.28 seconds and second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.43 seconds.

Abe Lincoln finished in second place in the boys' shot put following his toss of 42-3.25.

For the Coyle Lady Bluejackets, Anika Smalley qualified in a sprint race and was also a member of two relay teams that will be advancing to the state meet.

Smalley finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.52 seconds. She was also a member of the first place 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter relay teams. She was joined by Taren Aska, Moshe Boyles, and Tyra Aska.

The group ran the 4x100-meter relay in 52.48 seconds and the 4x200-meter relay in 1:50.77.

Tyra Aska also finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time 27.33 seconds.

For the Bluejackets, three relay teams will be part of the state meet field. The 4x400-meter group of Fidel Simpson, Tony Aska, Joseph Johnson, and Gary Hunter gained an automatic qualifying spot with a third place finish with a time of 3:42.56.

The two other relay teams qualified based on their regional meet times with their fourth place finishes. The 4x100-meter and 4x200 meter teams will advance with times of 46.39 seconds and 1:36.44, respectively. The those teams consist of Simpson, Aska, LaShay Johnson, and Hunter.

Individually, Hunter qualified in the 100-meter dash with his third place finish of 11.71 seconds. Simpson finished in a tie for third place in the high jump with a leap of 5-8.

Agra's lone state qualifier was Lindsay Leal-McBride who finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.51.

The Class A and 2A state track meet will also be held Friday and Saturday but at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.
