Perkins' annual Christmas celebration, Old Fashioned Country Christmas, is set for next Thursday evening, Dec. 12.
The annual downtown event will kick off at 5 p.m. with a chili supper. The supper, hosted by POSSE, will be held at the Lions Den.
"Christmas Memories," the parade theme for this year, is expected to bring an added element of holiday joy to the festivities.
The Thomas-Wilhite Memorial Library will have pictures with Mrs. Claus from 6-7 p.m.
Also, the buildings of the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza will be decorated for Christmas and open from 6-8 p.m.
As in years past, everyone is invited to enjoy this free event hosted by Perkins Community Chamber of Commerce. Sponsors include Stroud National Bank, Shake Rattle & Roll, El Mexicano, Perkins Drug, High Country Utilities, Dream Scents, Payne County Bank and Harland & Beverly Wells.
Popular activities include musical entertainment, a tree lighting ceremony, a hayride, and vendor booths.
Visitors are invited to participate in the "Santa Stroll" for a chance to win prizes. To play, just obtain a Santa Stroll card and visit participating businesses Dec. 1-12. When the card is complete, it's entered into a drawing that will be held at 8:45 p.m. Dec. 12 for several great prizes. Participating businesses include Sanders Group, Sasser & Company Antiques, Perkins Drug, Firefly Cottage Boutique, El Mexicano, Model Tee, Hidden Oasis Day Spa, Main Street Mall, Dream Scents, and Harris Electric.
Lots of downtown businesses will also have their doors open for holiday open houses through out the evening. Those participating in open Day Spa, Frontier Realty, Main Street Mall, Sanders Group, Model Tee, Dream Scents, Sasser & Company Antiques, Perkins Drug, and Harris Electric.
A live Nativity and reading of the Christmas story will take place during the parade.
Santa Claus will wrap up the parade with free treats for the children. Free photos with Santa will also be available in front of City Hall after the parade. Or if you would prefer, photos with the Grinch in front of Perkins Paint & Wrecker.
At 8 p.m. there will be a Christmas concert and a sing along hosted by Monica Taylor and Bobby Simma at the Old Church Center, 780 N. Main Street. Free refreshments will be provided.
Area residents are invited to bring family and friends for holiday fun, and enjoy the sights, sounds, and scents of Christmas in downtown Perkins.
Old Fashioned Country Christmas activities will run from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12.
