If you or someone you know is looking for a fun interactive way to give back to your community, the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza is seeking friendly people to serve as volunteers at the Frank Eaton Home and the Cimarron Valley Railroad Museum.
The buildings at the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza will be open Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. starting May 25.
"There are no specified days or hours for work," said David Sasser, Chairman of the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza Trust. "Volunteer time is based on the availability of the volunteer, usually one three hour shift per month, but that depends on how much time the volunteer is willing to spend at the Plaza."
The Plaza needs at least two volunteers each day, but would prefer to have four allowing two persons at each location.
"Volunteers are a mixture between concierge and security guard, " Sasser said.
Volunteers encourage guests to learn about the buildings while supervising the displays to ensure the safety and preservation of the artifacts.
Volunteers have to be 16 years old or older, happy to work with the public and dress appropriately. Volunteers will receive a Plaza shirt and name tag.
A volunteer training session will be held later in May.
Those interested in volunteering can call Sasser at 547-2416 or Volunteer Coordinator Judy Bartram at 547-2787 to sign up, ask questions, or arrange a visit with current volunteers.
