Perkins-Tryon Elementary students were challenged to read at home during April 1-10 in an effort to raise money for the library. Students asked businesses, family, and friends to sponsor them in their goal for the 10 days. Thirty-one students participated in the Read- A-Thon and read a total of 9,028 minutes and raised $1,622.85 for the elementary library. The library has not received funding from the school or state in the last 3 years.

The money will be used to purchase books for our Scholastic Reading Counts program that checks comprehension of students through testing. Bookplates will be put in the books to list the names of those students who participated and read during the Read- A-Thon. Students were given awards for participating and the top reader for pledges and minutes read. Jack Gabbert, a third grader, read a total of 1,800 minutes and had pledges totaling $300. He received two Hasting Gift Cards and two new books. Congratulations to all of the participants and thank you to all who sponsored students from P-T Elementary.
