By Patti Weaver Journal Correspondent

A Perkins man accused of giving heroin to his roommate who died of a possible overdose has been jailed on $200,000 bail.

Matthew Raymond Prescott, 28, could receive a life prison term if convicted of delivering the drug to his roommate on April 9.

Payne County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Myers was sent to the men's home in the 9600 block of S. Cottonwood Road at about 6:15 a.m. April 9 on a reported medical emergency, court records show.

Prescott's roommate was found unresponsive in the residence and pronounced dead there after an unsuccessful attempt by a Life Net medical crew to revive him, Myers wrote in an affidavit.

The deputy interviewed several persons at the house and discovered that Prescott had injected black tar heroin into his roommate, the affidavit alleged.

Prescott said that he and his roommate went to Fort Worth, Texas, where Prescott purchased black tar heroin, the affidavit alleged.

After they arrived back at their residence, Prescott injected the purchased heroin into his roommate, who "a short time later started having medical problems and subsequently died of a possible overdose," the affidavit alleged.

Black tar heroin was found inside the residence afte Prescott told the deputy where he had hidden the drug, the affidavit alleged.
