1/4/2014 3:09:00 PM Ersnt to be interim city manager
Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst will serve as Perkins interim city manager following action taken by the Perkins City Commission last Friday.
According to Perkins Mayor Bob Johnson, Ernst will be given a 45-day contract to serve as city manager while the commission searches for a permanent replacement for current manager Pete Seikel, who's last day is Friday.
"We had talked about getting someone internal," Johnson said. "Bob does know and understand what's going on, and he's working on a masters in city government."
Ernst will be paid as city manager during the contract period and will not draw his salary as police chief during that time.
Johnson said the city has had seven persons apply for the city manager's position to date.
"Seven people have sent in resumes and we have asked three of them to submit applications for employment so we can interview them," Johnson said.
The commission will interview the candidates January 7.
"My feeling is we need someone who is honest and who wants to be a part of the community," Johnson added.
A come an go reception for Seikel will be held Friday, Jan. 3, at Perkins City Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m
