Perkins Police Investigate Rash Of Car Burglaries

At least 15 vehicles were burglarized in Perkins last Wednesday evening, June 12.

According to Perkins Police Chief Bob Ernst, the burglaries occurred along Fairway Drive, Cimarron Trails, Sterling Park Apartments, Main Street, Charmed, and the Blue Ridge Trailer Park.

"There are at least 15 that I know of, " Ernst said. "Several people have called in to let us know, but declined to make a report."

The vehicles that were ransacked were unlocked, or locked with a window partially rolled down. Some vehicles were just 'gone through' while others had items stolen. There was a rifle stolen from one vehicle in the Main Street area on East Stumbo. The rifle is described as a black 17 HMR with a scope. Other items stolen include ID cards, bank cards, cell phone chargers, computer chargers, etc.

"While we are doing everything within our power to find the person or persons responsible for these crimes, it is imperative that people secure their vehicles and remove items from plain view inside the vehicles," Ernst said.

He also said it is also very important that people contact the police when they see suspicious activity.

If anyone has information on these, or any other crimes, they are asked to contact the Perkins Police Department at 547-2855. "Callers may remain anonymous." Ernst said.
