It is 10:45 and my problem with Microsoft and the Internet are solved for now. All week, I asked God what he wanted me to write about and it was simply "quiet."
I am reading about Diabetes research. If it's what you got.... you had better check the resources towards healing. It looks like there are no cures. I'm not Jesus. I will study, find a support group and pray. I will try to eat and live in a healthy way and find the small joys in each day.
As a writer, I know there are threads that weave the story together from the first eye-catching paragraph to the final scene.
When it is also your story, the facts become even more significant.
"In 2011, 25.8 million children and adults in the United States had Diabetes. In the age group 65 and over there were 10.9 million with Diabetes. It is also the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adult's aged 20-74. Diabetes is a leading cause of kidney failure. More than 60% of nontraumatic lower-limb amputations occur in people with Diabetes. and the cost was $245 billion in the United States for diagnosed Diabetes...."
Where did any of these illnesses begin? Why now? Why me?
The world's a tough place. It takes courageous people to take on a disease where the odds don't look so good.
In my life and the thousands of others out there, we deal with it every day. Do I like checking my blood sugar each day? Do I really want to count how many carbs are in each food selection? Some times, I'd rather have a cheeseburger and a chocolate donut. There are always choices and I choose life! No one ever said, "Jeanette, life will be easy and fair."
All week I heard about the children at St. Jude's and their courage, research on implants, wounded soldiers coming home, and legislation being reviewed in Congress affecting health care. The "holy thread" among all of these is....We want to live! We want to be healed!
When Jesus walked on earth, he healed the lame, blind, and paralyzed. Jesus raised the dead, cured epileptics, lepers and those afflicted with many diseases. Many were healed because of their faith. His healing touch could not be explained to the people of that time.
Today, by working together, we will find the cure for Diabetes, as well as many other life-threatening diseases.
The true wealth of a nation is the health of its people. If we are to invest in anything, let it be the precious lives of those we love.
The threads of faith, hope and love bind us close as the world's chaos comes to knock at our door. The hours are cut at work, the car breaks down, pain wracks your body, money never goes far enough, and dreams are shattered.
Sunday, we sang a praise song and one-line stays in my mind; "My chains are gone. I've been set free...." I believe that in my lifetime Diabetes will be cured. I also believe that God has a plan for us to be healed. Go out under his merciful grace and live today.
