4/3/2013 4:20:00 PM LWV plans "Focus on Education"
The League of Women Voters has planned a statewide "Focus on Education" on Tuesday, April 9, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A live broadcast of a panel discussion will occur in seven locations across the state including: The Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence on the OSU Campus in Stillwater; Tulsa Community College; Cameron University in Lawton; University Center at Southern Oklahoma in Ardmore; Pontotoc Tech Center in Ada, and K20 Center in Norman.
The live production will involve a panel at Metro Tech OK including: David Blatt, OK Policy Institute; Brad Williams, President, Student Services, OSU/ OKC; Sharon Rodine, Oklahoma Institute of Child Advocacy; Terry Graham, Burlington Public School Board Member; and Lavena Brown, Oklahoma City Public Schools Pre-K Parent.
Oklahoma education has had its funding cut in the last few years, whereby the education budget is 34% down from 38% in 2004. Per pupil spending is down as well. If Oklahoma is to compete economically, our education dollars must be spent wisely. Your participation in this live broadcast on April 9 can help draw attention to this important issue.
Questions for the panel may be submitted from all 8 sites, including Stillwater's at the ITLE Bldg on Monroe Street (next to the Child Development Lab) on the OSU Campus. Facilitators from our local League will be: Martha McMillian Cassie Reed Karen Melcher Elaine Courtright
We ask you to please start drafting questions to submit to the OKC live panel and be present at our Stillwater site at 6:30 Tuesday night.
