approves signage contracts

The Stillwater Board of Education approved interior and exterior signage contracts at the new Highland Park and Will Rogers elementary schools during their July 16 meeting held at the Administration Building located at 314 South Lewis.
Kellee Brown, director of human resources/public information officer with Stillwater Public Schools said the board approved Advanced Work Zone Services' bid of $15,168 for a signage and striping contract at Highland Park. She said the board approved Lettercrafts bid of $19,163 for interior signage at Highland Park and it approved AMAX Sign Company's bid of $28,648 for exterior signage at Highland Park. The board also approved Lettercrafts bid of $12,764 for interior signage at Will Rogers.
Brown said the board also heard updates on the construction progress of the Highland Park and Will Rogers.
"We are building two new replacement schools," Brown said. "Highland Park which located on Drury Street is 83 percent complete. We are also in charge of doing road work on Drury with stoplights and getting that intersection ready for school and it is about 60 percent complete."
Brown added "Will Rogers on Washington Street is 71 percent complete. We have known for six months or more that it won't be completed in time for the start of school.
We are hoping sometime after Labor Day we can move into the new building." The board approved a bid on eight transportation fl eet vehicles in the amount of $186,503.
The vehicles included a halfton pickup for $17,396; two half-ton cargo vans for $18,535 each; two eight-passenger SUVS at $30,631 each; two threequarter ton crew cab pickups at $24,538 each from Owen Thomas Ford in Stillwater and one sevenpassenger mini-van for $21,639 from Bob Howard Dodge in Oklahoma City.
Brown said the board also approved chief financial officer Phillip Storm as the purchasing agent for the district; director of special education Caryl Talley as compliance coordinator for the district; renewal of a $9,000 contract with the Stillwater YMCA for use of the pool for the Stillwater swim team and renewed contracts for educational services, including Junior Achievement and Oklahoma Family Counseling.
In a special meeting the school board approved the hiring of several staff personnel for the 2013- 14 school year including Sarah Major as a third grade teacher at Sangre Ridge Elementary; Zeinab Mohamed, an ELL teacher at Will Rogers Elementary; John Schutte as a history teacher at Stillwater Junior High.
Also approved for the 2013-14 school year pending a national background check include Danika Arnold as a math teacher at Stillwater Middle School; Jaclyn Ramirez as special education teacher at Stillwater Middle School; Traci Richardson as chemistry teacher at Stillwater High School; Kaitlin Spooner, math teacher at Stillwater Junior High.
The board also approved pending a background check and teacher certification Jimmy Harris as a business education teacher and varsity baseball coach at Stillwater High School.
"We hired a new varsity baseball coach and we are really excited about him being at Stillwater High School," Brown said. Board members also approved the retirement of Linda Davis, a fi fth grade teacher at Westwood Elementary School; the resignation of Rebecca Holt as business teacher at Stillwater High School; Linda Donahoo, cook; Ron Holt, security monitor and Jennifer Humphrey, assistant special education.
The board also appointed Daniel Huggins for a temporary information technology position and Amy Sanders as custodian at Stillwater Junior High
