Spring (can we say finally?) is here! Can Memorial Day, a.k.a. Decoration Day, be far behind?!
On Sunday morning, May 26, we will be honoring those have served or are serving in the military. On that day we will present a display of individual accomplishments of the men and women who have served, or are serving, to keep us safe and free. If you would like to be a part of that display and be honored as our guest that day, please call by Fri., May 17 for details.
Linda Riley played the organ offertory, the IBC choir sang "Deep Down in My Heart", and Gale & Rita Cavanaugh sang a special version of "Love Lifted Me" before the sermon for those who came Sunday to celebrate Jesus as Lord.
Brother Ed Anderson's morning message "God's Goals for You" was taken from Philippians 1:1-11. The Apostle Paul had planted a church in Philippi and in his love and care for the church, he offered prayer to encourage their growth in their Christian walk individually and corporately. He reminded them they were to share/fellowship together in a common spiritual life as children of God and members of the body of Christ. In that they would be identified in the defense and confirmation of the Gospel as well as being mission minded. His prayer was also for them commencing with new life in Christ and then continuing in their understanding and obedience to the Word of God. His continued prayer was for them to live a balanced spiritual separation: a life separated from sin, to living a life demonstrated by the fruit of the Spirit.
A special thanks to the First United Methodist Church and Pastor Kip Heatley for hosting a wonderful Baccalaureate Service Sunday evening. Special thanks to the Gideons Representative James Tadlock for their presentation of the written Gospel. Brother John Curtis, pastor of Eden Chapel United Methodist Church presented the message "Don't Forget to Shut the Gate" from 2 Timothy 3:14. As the students begin their next chapter, many things will come their way and they need to remember to shut the gate to bad situations, but be ready to open the gate to the good things open to them. Congratulations Perkins-Tryon Seniors as you begin a new venture!
