The Church of Christ in Perkins

Since this is the time of year for us to honor our mothers, let's consider two moms who are never praised for what they did as mothers.

Here is one of the best known heros of the Bible. We know a lot about him and his famous great grandma who is lauded in the Bible for her courageous bravery, and his great, great grandmother who was a liar and a known prostitute, but he never mentioned his mother in any of his numerous writings. We don't even know her name. All three of these noble women show up in the lineage of Jesus, and this prostitute is about 27 great grandma's back in that file. So, let's zero in on this great, great grandmother and see what the Bible has to say about her.

Before God sent his army to destroy the town she lived in, she came to believe in the real God because of what He had been doing with his people. When spies were sent in to prepare for an attack, she lied and hid them out before helping them escape and report back about what they had found out.

After the battle she was rewarded for helping to destroy that evil city. The writer of Hebrews praises her for her faith, and James uses her as a good example because of her good works. You can read all about it in the book of Joshua. The hero's name is David. His great grandma was Ruth, and his great, great grandma was Rahab.

All people sin, but no matter what we have done, we can repent and be forgiven by making Jesus the Lord of our lives. In the first chapter of I Corinthians, Paul says some early Christians had been: idolaters, adulterers, prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, swindlers, greedy, drunkards, slanderers, and such-like, but they had been washed clean, sanctified and justified through Christ and were now members of the body of Christ himself.
We invite you to visit us on Lover's Lane and let us share more about God's wonderful offer.
