It's time to register this week to come with us to the Cimarron Baptist Association Camp Lela Children's Camp! Children completing 3rd-6th grade are eligible to attend and the week we will attend: June 11-14. Call our church office today for details!
Linda Riley played the organ offertory special, "He"; Reva Anderson sang the encouraging song "When I Remember" for those who came to celebrate Jesus as Savior and Lord on Sunday.
Our guest preacher Brother Lonnie Lee brought our morning message "It's a Long Jump from Here to There" taking his text from II Peter 1:2-8. He shared some stats about two long jumpers, one being Mike Powell who jumped an amazing 29 ft. 4 in., which still stands(!) and demonstrated just how long that was. Mr. Powell had to take the proper steps in training to be able to make that jump. When someone receives Jesus as Savior and Lord, it seems they want to "jump" to loving everyone through their own power or because they think they should. The follower of Christ is given everything needed for life and godliness at the point of salvation, but we must not stay a "babe in Christ" - we must continue to grow! It is a "lifetime" jump; it's what we "signed-up" for when we received Christ: we need then to begin to take on God's "nature" through His Word. It is a process: faith, godliness, goodness, endurance, brotherly kindness; then the result is God's love through you. Then folks will see God's love naturally flowing through in us by His power, not ours.
We were blessed with a duet by Brother Lonnie & Jannette Lee singing "There's a New Name Written Down in Glory" before Bro. Lonnie's evening message: "Hur, the Heroic Hand Holder" from Exodus 17:8-13. Hur did what God called him to do, simply helping by holding up one of Moses' arms! It was a form of encouragement! Without him doing his task, along with another, many Israelites would have died during the battle. As followers of Christ, the church is to be together in one Spirit, one purpose - always about Jesus and not about me doing what God calls us to do. We are called to be encouragers and not "uncouragers" (my word), because those who speak negatively about others, can cause validation to an unbeliever's unbelief. We need to be sensitive, know what to say and when to say it, see what is needed then do it, and seize the opportunity to build up and not tear down! Each follower of Christ has the ability to be the true believer, find the best about others, and make a difference. Be a "Hur!"
