Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Show Set May 3, 4, and 5 in Pawnee

If you are looking for a fun, family event reminiscent of years past, the Oklahoma Steam and Gas Engine Show promises three days of amazing events. From May 3-5, the show, hosted by the Oklahoma Steam Threshing and Gas Engine Association, offers a full schedule of events sure to please all ages.

The show is held at Steam Park Grounds in Pawnee, and gates open at 8 a.m. all three days. Admission is $8 per day or $10 for a three-day pass. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Friday is School Day-any school group attending with their teacher is admitted free of charge. Food Vendors will be on site for everyone's convenience.

"Our show is the oldest and largest show of this type in Oklahoma," said Robert Marrs, OSTGEA president. "This is our 47th show, and it will feature live displays of steam engines, gas tractors and gas engines, wheat threshing, rock crushing, plowing, saw mill and shingle mill, line shaft machine shop, corn and wheat grinding, quilt exhibits and demonstrations," Marrs added.

Demonstrations, which will run off and on during the three days of the show, also include a 100-Ton Corliss Steam Engine in the Power House (listed on the National Historic Registry), blacksmithing, cornmeal grinding, working gas engines display, rope making, broom making and corn husking/ shelling. There also will be live entertainment, a flea market/swap meet, and arts & crafts. On-site camping is available.

For the past 46 years, the organization has held its annual show in Pawnee during the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday in May. But they do much more.

We have been in Christmas parades and even at the Capital in Oklahoma City. We support other organizations by taking our equipment to different events such as Drumright Heritage Days, Shamrock Saint Patrick's Celebration, Route 66 Flywheelers in Catoosa, and many more. We also made our debut at the Tulsa State Fair in 2007 and were there again in 2008 and 2011, Marrs explained.

Other events of the show include the Steam Engine Spark Show, Sanctioned Kiddie Tractor Pull, Steam Games and much more. For a complete schedule of events for all three days, log onto www.oklahomathr eshers.org.
