The Obama Administration recently announced that it will delay the implementation of a key piece of its sweeping health care reform; the employer mandate. The mandate would require any employer within the United States with over 50 employees to provide them health insurance or face steep federal penalties. Considering that a mandate of this scope is already being delayed reinforces what we already knew: Obamacare is an unworkable catastrophe. And now, even the Administration is starting to admit it.
The delay came forth as a result of concerns voiced by employers nationwide that have been scrambling to be in compliance with the law by January 2014, when the mandate was intended to take effect. The regulatory burdens of Obamacare, however, have proven to be too much, too fast, and the Obama Administration is now reluctantly relaxing its grip on small business to allow them more time to prepare. It is of utmost importance that we give employers the flexibility they need to flourish and be competitive.
This is just one of many dubious actions the Administration has taken to implement the Affordable Care Act. For instance, the Administration also announced that rather than enforce certain eligibility requirements for those seeking subsidized health insurance, they were more or less going to rely on the honor system for the time being. In place of strong verification systems, they will lean on self-reported information about one's income and health insurance status until 2015.
Many individuals and families are concerned about the negative impacts of the Affordable Care Act, yet the president continues to ignore them. Addressing a few concerns while ignoring others will not solve the problems in this flawed law and shows an extreme case of negligence on the part of the Administration.
Recently, the House voted on legislation to delay both the employer and individual mandates for one year. Passing this legislation postponed onerous provisions included in Obamacare for all Americans and made a positive step in dismantling the law.
Ultimately, the only true solution to solving the overarching burden of Obamacare is a permanent repeal to the entire law. I have voted to fully repeal the Affordable Care Act three times, and I have voted to defund portions of the law over 30 times. I can assure you I will continue to vote in favor of dismantling Obamacare any chance I get so we can provide hard working American families with quality health care.
