The Mutual Improvement Club met Thursday, November 21, in the home of Joan McDaniel, hostess with LaNell Harris as co-hostess.
The meeting was called to order by Fern Downey, Vice-President. The minutes of the October meeting were read and the treasurer's report given. A motion was made by Ann McKnight and seconded by Judy Bartram that the minutes and treasurer's report be accepted. Motion carried.
Members attending were Judy Bartram, Fern Downey, Dorothy Fagan, Jo Hyder-Little, Barbara Kirby, Nelda Kirby, Joan McDaniel, Ann McKnight, Judy Moorman, Helen Robey, Judy Spillars, Margaret Walker, Darla Woody and our guest speaker Alison Bloyd, Library Director, Thomas-Wilhite Memorial Library.
Joan, Cares and Concerns Committee chairperson, reported that flowers had been sent to members who were ill and cards sent to members celebrating November birthdays. A P-T Angel request was filled and "joys and concerns" were shared by club members.
Members were reminded about the Old Fashioned Country Christmas celebration to the held on Thursday, December 12, and the new bridge dedication also to be held in December.
Our next meeting will be our Christmas party in the home of Darla Woody. Dates and times were discussed. It was decided that we will gather on Friday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m. Darla will prepare the meat and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Also, members were asked to bring donations that will be given to the Lions Club for their "needy family" projects.
Alison Bloyd, our guest speaker, shared with us a brief history of the Thomas-Wilhite Memorial Library, the many services offered by the library, programs offered by the library that benefit infants to adults, and the vast collection of materials that the library has. She also spoke about the "Friends of the Library" group and the wonderful contributions they have made to the library, and the great staff that works in the library on a daily basis. Also, a Library Trust has been established, with a five member Board of Trustees. This was done after the library received a $25,000 donation. Alison, thank you for a wonderful presentation.
