The Cimarron Valley HCE met at 1:00 p.m. August 12, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Perkins. Connie Norrie and Phyllis Rodman served as hostesses.
Connie Norrie, President, called the meeting to order. She lead the group in the Flag Salute and the club song. Phyllis Rodman gave the "Thought For The Day" about a man from Florida who wanted to do something for the Moore tornado victims. He started painting on rocks and selling them. He raised $407.00. Gwen Barbaree gave a history on post dramatic stress syndrome and its connection to dementia.
We welcomed two guests, Patsy Sheales from Australia and Arlinda Myeberger.
Happy Birthday was sung to Lorayne Hughes and Jacqui Savage.
The treasurers report was given by Connie Norrie in absence of our treasurer Marolyn McDuff.
Secretary Jane Flint read the minutes of the July meeting. They were approved as read. We had two committee reports. Charlotte Parrack reported that the "Read About Oklahoma" series will begin September 2. The first book is dated 1912-13 and is about the area around Okmulgee and Muskogee. Monica Wall reported that the tooth fairy pillows are doing good. She will let us know when she needs more help.
Connie Norrie gave the program on "How To Develop And Prepare An Educational Exhibit". Eighty-five percent of learning occurs through vision. Ten percent through hearing and five percent through touch, taste and smell. The lesson was very informative on color and lettering to use for eye catching.
The entries for the Payne County Fair was reviewed. Everyone seemed to be ready.
Kitchen duties ere discussed and filled along with the members who wanted to help make pies. Our next meeting will be September 9. Our Hostesses will be Monica Wall and Jacqui Savage. Lesson leaders will be Gwen Barbaree and Phyllis Rodman. Our lesson will be on "Home Safety Devices".
