Albert Dwight McCormick

Albert Dwight McCormick, 82, of Stillwater went to be with the Lord on October 29, 2013. A service celebrating his life was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 at the First Baptist Church in Stillwater.

Dwight was born on June 25, 1931 in Lavaca, AR to Sid McCormick and Catherine Escue. He grew up in Fort Smith, AR, graduating from Northside High School in 1949. In 1951 Dwight enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably until his discharge in 1952. On April 21, 1957 Dwight married the love of his life, Anna Mae Core, in a ceremony at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Caulksville, AR. Dwight and Anna enjoyed 56 years together and had three beautiful children: Joy, Jayne, and Jeanne.

Dwight started in the retail business in 1946 making deliveries on a bicycle to Fort Smith, AR neighborhoods. In 1963, Dwight and Anna moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma and acquired the Consumers IGA grocery store on Boomer Road. Over the next four decades, he owned and operated IGA stores that served Stillwater, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Ponca City. He measured his success by the positive impact the business had on the employees, their families, and the communities they served. He retired in 1994. After retirement, Dwight and Anna spent time traveling and visiting family. He loved and was actively involved in the lives of each of his daughters and grandchildren.

Dwight was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stillwater for over 50 years, and he was a long-time fan and avid supporter of Oklahoma State University Athletics. Dwight was preceded in death by an infant son, his parents, and the grandparents who reared him, Mom and Pop McCormick.

He is survived by his wife Anna of the home. Three daughters: Joy McCormick Sanders and husband Stephen, of Rowlett, TX. Jayne McCormick Baumgarten and husband John, of Prosper, TX. Jeanne McCormick Nutter and husband Darin, of Springdale, AR. One half-sister Lucinda White. Seven grandchildren: Austin Nutter, Abbie Nutter, Anna Nutter Jackson, Allison Machado, Aaron Machado, Taylor Baumgarten, and Grayson Baumgarten. One grandson- in-law: Alex Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Dwight's name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family via an online guestbook at www.pmcfh.com.
